County adopts election boundary contingency plan
The Aransas County Commissioners Court unanimously adopted a contingency plan regarding future election boundary changes during a special meeting held on Dec. 4.
The court approved Order No. 0-19-2025 to revise county election precincts. This action is necessary to comply with potential changes in congressional district boundaries mandated under House Bill 4 (HB 4) from the second call session of the 89th Texas legislature. The motion was amended to specifically choose Option 1 before the final vote was taken.
The order is not effective immediately, however. According to court discussion, it will only go into effect when the Supreme Court issues a stay on the lower courts.
Officials acknowledged that the court was moving proactively on the issue. One commissioner noted the rationale: "I guess we're a little ahead of the game," adding that the court did not want to be "behind if the Supreme Court issues a ruling today or tomorrow".
