REI opens new Lynnwood store, doubling space after move

Dozens of people waited outside REI Co-op's new Lynnwood location Friday morning, as the outdoor retailer celebrated the grand opening.

Spanning 40,000 square feet, the store at 19500 Alderwood Parkway S. is double the space REI previously had at the Alderwood mall. Last year, REI confirmed it would move from its store after 20 years so it could spread out in roomier digs. It took over what was previously a Dick's Sporting Goods outlet store at the Alderwood Parkway shopping center.

Squire Simpson, the company's regional director of stores for Washington and Alaska, said the new location will provide a better experience for customers.

"The ease of parking, a larger footprint, we've been able to elevate our assortment of items in store," he said.
