Gender parity remains elusive in Washington's corporate boardrooms

Although women’s representation in corporate governance is still inching upward, the pace of women leaders joining corporate boardrooms in Washington has slowed.

Less than one-third of board seats at the state's publicly traded companies are occupied by women, according to the nonprofit 50/50 Women on Boards' gender diversity index, which uses data from Equilar.

As of March, the 167 women board members at Washington public companies represented an increase of seven percentage points from March 2020. But the share of women on boards has increased only slightly since 2022.

Women are similarly outnumbered in boardrooms across the U.S.
