Microsoft layoffs continue with new job cuts in Redmond
Microsoft is again laying off dozens of employees in Washington, according to a filing made with the state Monday.
The tech giant disclosed it is cutting 42 employees at its Redmond headquarters, beginning in November, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification. Its the latest round of layoffs that have now impacted more than 3,200 company employees in Washington and 15,000 people globally since May.
Organizational and workforce changes are a necessary and regular part of managing our business, a Microsoft spokesperson said in a prepared statement. We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners.
The cuts come as Microsoft reports record profits and spends heavily on artificial intelligence. CEO Satya Nadella told employees in July that while the job cuts have been "weighing heavily on me," the company's efforts to achieve success will depend on its "continuing to maintain and scale our current business, while also creating new categories with new business models."
