3 Pierce County schools on lockdown after nearby shooting

Three schools in Pierce County were placed into lockdown after a shooting in Midland around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Ford Middle School was put in lockdown due to local police activity, while Midland Elementary School and Franklin Pierce High School were put into modified lockdowns due to close proximity, Franklin Pierce Schools stated on Facebook.

Ford Middle School and Franklin Pierce High School students were directed by law enforcement to stay on campus for approximately an hour beyond their school day.

Franklin Pierce School District’s transportation department is transporting middle and high school students home, school officials stated. As a result of shared bus routes, elementary buses are expected to be between 45 minutes to an hour late.
