Additional candidates file for 2026 spring election before holiday break
The pace of filing for the 2026 spring election remains lukewarm, with several incumbents and potential challengers across county boards, municipalities and school boards yet to decide, according to election officials and candidate trackers maintained by some clerks.
Since Wausau Pilot & Review published its 2026 election update last week, local election officials have received additional filings. While all incumbents on the 11-member Wausau City Council have made decisions nine opting to run again and two declining some members
The deadline to file a notification of noncandidacy for the 2026 spring election is Friday, Dec. 26. Candidacy paperwork including a declaration of candidacy, nomination papers and campaign finance registration is due Tuesday, Jan. 6. The spring election will be held Tuesday, April 7, with primaries scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, if needed.
The Village of Kronenwetter Board of Trustees and the Mosinee School District stood out for having no filings at all until Monday and Friday, respectively, according to updates from the respective officials.
