Harry Wait found guilty: Ballot fraud defendant admitted scheme to 'save the Republic'
A Racine County jury [convicted/acquitted] Harry Wait on March 24, following two days of testimony in which the Union Grove man admitted he requested absentee ballots in the names of Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Racine Mayor Cory Mason without their knowledge or consent.
Specifically, Wait was found guilty of two counts of misdemeanor election fraud (counts two and four) and one felony count of identity theft (count three). He was found not guilty of count one, unauthorized use of an individuals personal identifying information.
He said during testimony that he hatched the scheme to save the Republic.
Wait took the witness stand in his own defense on the second day of his Racine County jury trial and admitted to requesting absentee ballots in the names of two of Wisconsins most prominent elected officials without their permission. He then sparred openly with prosecutors and repeatedly asked the judge whether he was required to answer their questions.
