Points if you can decode the "Elvish".
I did.

It's a regular expression to identify a valid email address. (if not 100% bulletproof)

I first learned about regular expressions learning Unix back in the 1980's, to use "grep" and soon thereafter using perl, which was kind of new at the time, and is still crazy powerful in scripts.
