Cat and Mouse Tale
Suddenly I can't click on anything. I consult Gemini. 2 hours of software checks and tweaks. We try another OS version, DVD loaded. We get into the BIOS. Seems this BIOS can't load USB files on boot. Rewrite imaginary lines of code. There are no places to write.
Finally I grab a backup mouse. Presto!
I disassemble my old mouse, a few tiny crumbs and 3 hairs inside, wrapped around the scroll wheel, electronics, and click buttons. I clean them all out. Works better than ever in a a long time by far.
Gemini totally fabbed the whole thing. Waste of time.

(21,294 posts)Check the simple things first! I was having strange problems with desktop computer - couldn't work it out. Problem turned out to be a cannabis seed stuck in the keyboard partly holding left shift key down.
Glad you found the culprit.

(27,459 posts)I lost mousing recently, and I really suspect that the mouse bound to a bluetooth ipad instead of the desktop.
Damn elves at work.
BELIEVE ME, I looked all over for wired keybaord and mouse, but the desired ones were all wireless.
You cannot get a lighted keyboard from Apple unless you buy a laptop. At my age, a lighted keyboard (i.e. dark mode) wins.
And I got a trackball "mouse" for most work. It just "moves less" as in not at all. Suits me.
