Steps Toward Peace

Take a minute to think about how trust if formed. And then take a look at how that process is portrayed in one of the most beautiful scenes ever filmed in the 1979 movie The Black Stallion.

President Obama has cajoled the rest of the world to engage with Iran in the very first steps of that process. To see how that has happened over the last year, please be sure to read this account from the Associated Press.

Building trust is the key ingredient of the plan President Obama has followed from the beginning because it is the only way to ensure a peaceful resolution.

In that context, our argument is going to be that it is important for us to see if we can solve this thing permanently, as opposed to temporarily. And the only way, historically, that a country has ultimately decided not to get nuclear weapons without constant military intervention has been when they themselves take [nuclear weapons] off the table.


And so, yesterday Iran and the rest of the world entered into an agreement that will allow us to see whether or not it is possible to take those first few steps of trust...towards peace.

3. I was listening to the usual suspects complaining about this...

on NPR earlier, and they did not get a warm reception, with the proponents of the deal sounding far more realistic.

The truth of the matter seems to be that although the deal doesn't give us everything we want, or that much of anything, it is a start and the first crack in the wall since the Ayatollahs took over. The terms of the deal are almost irrelevant to the fact that we got a deal at all!

This could be the start of something great, and Kerry and Obama are responsible for it-- which drives the usual suspects insane.

6. Fascinating, diplomatic negotiations having been going on behind the

scenes, she.. conducted on a need to know basis. After 30 years of no diplomatic relations.. this very delicate situation obviously required brilliant chess maneuverings over the long stretch..

Brilliant, it was.

The President and SOS see no need to strut around an aircraft carrier. Calmly quietly they negotiate. They are the adults in the room. No bombs needed, no warmongering. It's built on trust. It's a chance for peaceful relations. It's a start.

She is back Cha, a few days ago. She is starting off slowly, however she is back.

Thanks for the clip, btw. Did you know that Cass Ole, the horse they used, had white markings that had to be covered up with Miss Clairol? I loved that book and the movie too. One reason is because the kid who played Alec was so well cast. He could actually ride, which helps a lot. But he grew up on some huge ranch, and from what I heard went back after the movie (and its disappointing sequel) never to return to Hollywood again. Strange, that.
