Slow play has been a hot-button topic as of late, especially in the professional game, but in Florida, it can sometimes lead to aggravated battery and broken bones. Thats exactly what happened back in June in Kissimmee when golfer Jason Hughes lost his cool with a slow-playing group ahead of him and unfortunately decided to take matters into his own hands.
According to the arrest warrant, Hughes attacked one of the golfers in front of him, punching him repeatedly in the face after telling him to hurry up. Hughes fully lost it when the group ahead was chatting on the green after being warned. The two men were eventually separated by their playing partners.
Bleeding and banged up, the injured golfer refused the deputies' request for an ambulance. His friend drove him to the hospital instead. He reportedly had an orbital fracture and needed stitches to his cheek.
Hughes and his playing partner split after the altercation, according to the Osceola County Sheriffs Office, and were eventually tracked down with the help of the golf course staff. Officials used the credit card under the tee-time reservation and surveillance videos from the course. ...................(more)

(191,739 posts)The guy he beat up (it went viral) and I mean BEAT UP really started it by his slow play and talking crap. He basically made the first move towards Hughes and thats when you first see him in the video. BIG GUY. The other guy has admitted he was hammered and apologized.
Hughes told him he was going to throw him in the water, literally grabbed him by the shirt, and drag/threw him 30 feet into the water. The guy came back for more and thats when the punches started flying. Hughes threw him a good 10-15 feet again.

(1,425 posts)There are alligators in every pond and lake in the state. The gator could have grabbed the guy and drowned him. Lake Kissimmee itself has the 2nd largest number of gators in the state after Lake Okeechobee.

(4,726 posts)Did he ask to play through? If one group is larger and playing more leisurely couldn't that fat head at least ask "Can we play through?". I don't even play golf but I have heard this phrase somewhere and I know it is for golf.

(25,527 posts)sometimes on are different schedules, so this is expected. Just don't be an AH about time. By far most people are chill about it, and it's part of the laid-back nature of playing golf, IMHO.

(14,557 posts)Ive never seen a problem when a group asks to play through. Most groups will wait on the tee box and offer to let the next group play through if they know they are slowing them down.
But of course that involves common courtesy and manners, which are no longer fashionable in Trumps world.
