The Fed and State govt aren't fighting the NRA, so will the National Education Association (the teachers' union) have to pick up the ball? Teachers don't relish having "routine" active shooter drills with their first graders. I know I didn't.

What I know of teachers is they tend to be pretty conservative but that could be just because I'm living in a deep red state. Would be cool if we could get teachers and pediatricians and other child advocates to come together to fix this nightmare.

(52,899 posts)I was a union rep at my district and the SDEA (San Diego), CTA (CA),, NEA (USA) always back dems in the elections (these are state and city unions as well as the national union that we all belong to). The NEA is anti-gun and has been ever since the 90s when I joined.
