I Survived Russian FSB Bomb Plot in Kyiv - Jason Jay Smart
Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia collapsed in Istanbul on July 23, lasting less than one hour. With diplomacy dead, the war has entered a more dangerous phase. On July 24, Ukrainian drones struck a critical Russian fuel depot near Sochis Sirius enclaveigniting massive fires, halting Sochi Airport traffic, and crippling Black Sea military logistics. This was not symbolic. Ukraine targeted a legitimate military asset used to supply Russian bombers. The depot sits near bases launching cruise missile attacks on Ukraine. Over 80 Russian energy facilities have now been hit since late 2024, causing more than $700 million in damage. While Russia wastes missiles on apartment blocks, Ukraine is striking oil refineries, airbases, and transport nodesdegrading Russias ability to sustain war.
Russia is losing militarily, economically, and diplomatically. Its Central Bank is injecting trillions of rubles to cover a liquidity crisis. Consumer loan defaults now exceed 10%. Major banks are quietly seeking bailouts. Russias 6.3% defense spending, a 3.7 trillion ruble deficit, and a 17% drop in oil revenues signal collapse. Meanwhile, Ukraine produces 30,000 drones annually, each costing just $200,000, used to destroy Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers, fuel hubs, and long-range strike platforms. As Ukraine gains battlefield leverage, Russia turns to active measuresspreading disinformation, inciting protests over Zelenskys anti-corruption reforms, and attempting to fracture Ukraines Western support. The Kremlin knows it is losing. This phase is not just militaryits psychological, economic, and political.
Failing on the battlefield, Russia will increasingly resort to manipulation and societal sabotagespreading disinformation, provoking unrest, and deploying terror. Last night in Kyiv, I witnessed it firsthand: the FSB sent a woman with explosives into a busy cafe to kill civilians. This is their strategy now.
