Beijing is no longer even pretending to care about Russia’s victory in Ukraine — it’s dismantling Moscow’s influence piece by piece, from the Far East to the global oil market. What was once “cooperation without limits” has become full-scale dependency. Russia bleeds oil, money, and sovereignty, while China and India grow stronger at its expense. The so-called “alliance of the East” is dead, replaced by a silent economic colonization that leaves Putin isolated and humiliated.

China's broader strategy, I suspect, is taking control of several Eastern Russian Oblasts, even as Putin drains potential troops from them for his war on Ukraine, including Amur Oblast, Khabarovsk Krai, Primorsky and Stavropol Krai.
