An Israeli minister was suspended from government meetings "until further notice" on Sunday, November 5, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said, after suggesting in an interview dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza.
Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, an ultranationalist politician part of Netnayahu's ruling coalition, told Israel's Kol Barama radio he was not entirely satisfied with the scale of Israel's retaliation in the Palestinian territory after Hamas fighters carried out a deadly attack on October 7 inside southern Israel.
When the interviewer asked whether the Israeli minister advocated dropping "some kind of atomic bomb" on the Gaza Strip "to kill everyone," Eliyahu replied: "That's one option."

(4,328 posts)port. Truly crazy and irresponsible talk like this can have even worse consequences than one can imagine. The fact that the radioactive fallout from such an attack would be as bad for Palestinians as for Israelis is not the kind of thing that will give Hamas, ISIS or whoever pause.

(13,601 posts)I would not put it past either side to use a nuclear weapon as a last resort. Or Hamas might even use one as a first resort if they can smuggle in a tactical nuke from North Korea. And of course even though they have never officially admitted it Israel has a large arsenal of nukes.
