A consensus is emerging: Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Where is the action?
A consensus is building. On 5 December, Amnesty International concluded after an investigation that “Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip”. A few days later, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) stated that after research and analysis, it concluded that “there is a legally sound argument that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza”.

A few days after that, Human Rights Watch (HRW) declared that “Israeli authorities are responsible for the crime against humanity of extermination and for acts of genocide”, and Médecins Sans Frontières reported that its medical “teams in the north of Gaza are seeing clear signs of ethnic cleansing”. Earlier in November, HRW also concluded that Israel’s actions in Gaza amounted to “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity”, and appeared to “also meet the definition of ethnic cleansing”.

Following the issuing of arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant by the international criminal court (ICC), also in November, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, all these recent judgments end the year with an emphatic categorization of the assault in Gaza as a violation of international law. They join the International Commission of Jurists and the UN in condemning Israel’s war. The country, and its head of state, are now, according to the courts and human rights organizations that make up the world’s legal and moral authorities, outlaws.

Gazans are trapped, with little or no defense capability; it's not a war, it's shooting fish in a barrel.

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimated that as of Oct. 1, the number of Palestinian deaths in Gaza alone directly from violence alone totalled 41,615, with another 10,000 estimated under the rubble.

According to an October 2, 2024 letter to Pres. Biden from a group of US physicians, another 62,413 people in Gaza have died from starvation.

I have great sympathy and admiration for the Jewish people generally; but the trauma they've endured seems to be resulting in a new catastrophe.

Call it by its names: genocide and ethnic cleansing.

And we are complicit.

"In earlier reports, the commission found that Israel had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in its conflict with Hamas, but stopped short of calling it genocide. Israel denounced the accusation as “fake.”

The report details the deaths of civilians killed during intense Israeli bombing of densely populated areas, the destruction of hospitals and clinics, including Gaza’s main fertility clinic, and the destruction of educational, religious and cultural sites. The consequence, it said, is the erasure of Palestinian identity.

... While the U.N. commission that issued the report has no enforcement power, Ms. Pillay said in an interview that its findings would carry weight with the world’s highest court, the International Court of Justice, as well as with International Criminal Court. The court is weighing a petition by South Africa to declare that Israel is committing genocide.

“This is a significant, independent report, one that will have to be taken seriously by all who read it, not least by those who are advising the prime minister and government of Israel,” said Philippe Sands, a law professor at University College London who specializes in genocide cases and has appeared before many international courts..."
