I do all the time and it got worse with the pandemic.

(31,854 posts)Occasionally, there is panic if the dream is bad enough.
This started when the former guy was elected. It has not left yet. It may be the pandemic. It may be because not all of my loved ones are vaccinated yet.
I hope we can both get over this soon.

(2,953 posts)I spent 4 hrs shaking the other night. Concentrating on breathing helped.

(11,780 posts)Its usually running something over and over in my head that theres nothing I could do about. Im always grateful when it does happen (not while its going on), as I come out of it because I know a lot of people suffer that way and Im thankful I dont.

(2,963 posts)Walks, exercise, yoga. 10-15 minutes of relaxation a couple of times a day.
The Calm app is really good any time of day or night, great guided meditation.
Good luck!

(21,031 posts)looks like there's a bunch of web sites to get info.
I remember once using (but I'm not sure of exact spot any more)- a few decades back in a movie theater watching something getting me upset, a d I used that point. It helped.
I'm going to check it out myself at a more reasonable hour (I should been sleeping like 3- hours earlier).
It's been rare for me to wake up in a panic (thank goodness!)

(13,262 posts)My new eye doc told me that.
I've had insomnia for about 17 years; it's man-made not physiological.
It allows me to drowse off to sleep about 30 minutes after taking. I don't stay asleep, though. You may have different reaction, of course.
Check with your doc about med interactions and such.
I wish you long and restful, uninterrupted sleep, and good mornings.

(8,506 posts)On a really bad night, I might wake up at 12:30 or 1:00. It usually subsided after a couple of hours and I could get another hour of sleep.
The only thing that has helped me is medical marijuana. I take it as edibles. No panic attacks, no migraines. It's like I have my life back. (I've been out for about three days and I had another 3:00 am panic attack last night.)
I have ptsd from rape so I go from a little anxiety to heart-pounding panic in about one second.

(10,459 posts)makes. 1/2 dropper under my tongue before bed. I've always had weird dreams, but nothing I would consider to be nightmares. The deep sleep I get with CBD Hemp oil makes me wake up more refreshed.

If you become accustomed to reading in bed you will find that after a while your eyes get tired, and you fall sleep with book in hand, then just close the book and dream of what you just read.
Pick books that are fun to read, that take your mind off our current situation. I don't know if you do, but if you are watching news at night, then stop it, you can learn about it the next morning.
MEDITATE, it helps you relax.
Do not think about what is going on in the world while in bed, that is why reading and meditation are so good, you need to think about good things.
If you are not exercising then start exercising, it takes the stress away, it doesn't matter what you do as long as it makes you move.
Also know that you are not alone, many of us have those issues, but I have been able to control them by doing what I am recommending you do, it is strange times we are living but we cannot loose, we have to win this battle.
If you need a list of books that are fun to read shoot me an email here at DU, I will put together a nice list.
Good luck

(4,293 posts)Essential fatty acids might help they allow the body to make the myelin sheath which is like insulation on the neurons. Meditation to bring the subconscious stress forward could help. Do some research to get guidance on how to move it along out and resolve it. There may be plant based nutrition that may lower it. I've been able to largely elimate mine that way. I've had years of undiagnosed PTSD from being a type 1 diabetic.
Best wishes.

(4,293 posts)Barleans is a solid brand we give our kid their essential fatty acids in some kind of fruit flavored form. I've heard of cbd cream you can put on your rear neck.

(5,233 posts)I had those awakenings for quite a period.
When my physician suggested that I might have sleep apnea, I was in denial.
A test showed that I did have sleep apnea.
Ever since I've used a CPAP, I no longer have the problem. (That sounds like a commercial, doesn't it)
I'm firmly convinced many more people need a CPAP than those recognizing it.

(13,049 posts)For waking up in terror.
Technically it's a blood pressure med.
My psydoc told me it would work the very first night I took it.
I didn't believe him.
But amazingly it worked that night.
And no more waking up because of bad dreams. No more waking panic.
I highly recommend getting Prazosin.
