Related: About this forumIs anyone else feeling particularly down today?
I am. I am finding it more interesting than emotional, because nothing has happened to specifically make me more depressed and anxious than I normally am, but it is happening.
Is it the fact that today is a day of social celebration and I have absolutely no one to celebrate with? And, no way to get there if I could?
Is it the state of the nation on a day like today? The reminder that the country we grew up in is no more and such a thing should not be celebrated? (I find that the current socio-economic state does not make me depressed. It makes me very angry. My inability to do anything about it is what I find depressing.)
I am not sure, so I wanted to inquire. Is anyone else feeling it today? Do you think it is because of the national state of things on such a day, or is it something more personal that has just chosen to day to manifest?

(28,889 posts)has to have a lingering effect today.
Wife and I are laying low today, later I will cook some burgers.
I need to reread some Ekhart Tolle who says that the only thing that is real in the NOW, the present moment. Feeling bad about the past and worrying about the future isn't real, it is a concoction of our subconscious mind.
So I went outside and pulled weeds from our flower garden. I put up a marker for one of our outside cats who passed away last week. He had the disease that his immune system doesn't work and our vet 12 years ago suggested we put him down, we obviously disagreed and gave him 12 extra years.
We have a parade in our small town every 4th, mostly fire trucks, logging trucks and garbage trucks that throw candy to the kids. The street was lined with chairs along main street yesterday afternoon saving their spots.
I think back 50 years ago when we had our Democratic Rep and Republican Rep both rode in the same convertible in the parade. Now, I have to write in the name of a Democrat come election time.
Reading Buddhist books helps me out also. With the state of our country today they would be saying, this too will pass.
I want you to know that I enjoy your posts here, I liked one of them today. Not sure if it is positive for you to have me liking your posts, I am a bit of an outcast.
The country went to hell but there are still more of us than there are of them.
Take care, think my other outside cat misses his buddy, I'm going to celebrate the 4th and go out and comb his hair, he's 13 years old.

(4 posts)It is because of the national state of things. I have depression and anxiety, and I realize that I am not alone, after a lifetime of thinking I was. Depression and anxiety are the prevailing mood among those of us with empathy. You aren't alone! All the years of managing your health have given you the skills to survive, and survive you will. You are brave to ask the question you did, and you speak for a legion of struggling, surviving folks.

(8,413 posts)Irregardless of whether or not one is a MENSA candidate, or just someone who like to keep things simple, it is the discourse that will elevate everyone. Our nation has been through plenty in 250 years, but it will endure in some form.
Me, I won't, but that does not matter. What have I ever done? 'The needs of the many' and all that.
But, it helps to talk to everyone here. Our diverse collection of lefties is what will make things better.
One day.
