School Cafeteria Sloppy Joe from the 1980s & '90s

This video covers the ambiguous history of the Sloppy Joe, along with the recipe, cooking and taste test of the typical school version.

Very interesting channel (most of the recipes are far older than this one). More of his videos:

His making of garum video is fantastic. His school pizza show is also a good one. There are several shows similiar to Max- Sohla is one, she looks for the oldest version of a recipe (one was a nettle soup from when humans still lived in caves), and of course, Townsend is another: he focuses mostly on recipes from the 1700-1800, usually around the American revolutionary war era.

I was familiar with Townshend's videos, but not Sohla's. Will add them to my list.

The entree of the day, or sloppy joes. The sloppy joes weren’t very good, but they were often better than the other choice.

Lunch shouldn’t be a choice of the lesser of two evils. My senior year I usually just went to the library and read a book.
