Problems are continuing at Boars Head deli meat plant

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/boars-head-plans-to-reopen-troubled-deli-meat-plant-but-reports-of-sanitation-problems-persist

snip-"But recent inspections at Boar’s Head sites in three states documented sanitation problems similar to those that led to the listeria contamination that killed 10 people and sickened dozens.

snip-"And yet, documents obtained by The Associated Press through a freedom of information request show that Boar’s Head plants in Arkansas, Indiana and elsewhere in Virginia were flagged for the same kinds of sanitation problems that led to the outbreak, with the most recent report in June.

In the past seven months, government inspectors reported problems that include instances of meat and fat residue left on equipment and walls, drains blocked with meat products, beaded condensation on ceilings and floors, overflowing trash cans, and staff who didn’t wear protective hairnets and plastic aprons — or wash their hands."

More there.

I used to use their deli meat to make reubens, not any more

This was when they were still in Smithfield. Just across the James. We used to play them in little league football.

Not the squeamish type. Compliance/oversight job. He said he almost threw up. It was bad. Smithfield itself assessed the situation (and probably with a sweet tax/land deal) moved the whole operation down to their massive plant just north of Tar Heel NC (population 90). They “process” 30,000 pigs….a day - everyday 365.

and found a few ways to cut corners on saniation without actually breaking any laws but which saved the company some bucks.

I hope he sampled the plant's wares and that key to the executive washroom came in handy when the listeria infection hit him.

I didn't like their turkey products. Their half sour pickles were so-so but the best I could do in New Mexico. I really miss half sours.

... I remember when they were the best that money could buy, but that was years ago. Corporatists kill everything they touch. The phrase, "Our first responsibility is to our stockholders" should be banned. Their first responsibility is to be decent human beings, a relatively simple task at which these fuckers have failed miserably.
