Related: About this forumNot All Beef Burgers
I saw a thread on the main board saying the price of beef is expected to rise quite a bit over the coming year. Apparently, some folk are saying that ground beef could be $10.00 by the end of 2026. I see it for about $5.00 right now when it's on sale.
So I've been thinking about burgers that aren't all beef. I did beef & pork sausage in equal amounts and liked it a lot. I am planning to try half beef and half turkey at some point, and while I have seen recipes for black bean burgers, I have not seen any that are half beef, half bean. This idea intrigues me.
Has anyone done this, mixing cheaper meats with ground beef to make cheaper burgers?

(4,023 posts)I was shocked the other day when I went to buy a pound of ground beef for tacos. I refused to pay it. But when I saw the price of ground turkey, I refused to pay that as well. It's a good thing we eat mostly vegan food in this household. And it's a good thing I typically don't like the flavor of TVP because it's gone crazy expensive, as well. We eat lots of beans and tofu for our protein. I've learned to season and process tofu so that most folks either can't tell the difference between beef or prefer it to beef, although it's a lot of work to go through all those steps.

(110 posts)At the local butcher it's about $2.00-2.50 per pound in a bulk package (3 pounds or more). I usually make 3 patties to a pound, though, because port has more fat and there's more shrinkage. That makes the equivalent about $3.00-3.25 a pound. Still cheaper than beef.

(56,509 posts)it might come down soon. but it sure would be nice to make a decent living for two years for a change. (though affording retail beef does suck right now, I admit)
