homemade bone meal?

Has anyone made their own bonemeal? I've found some fairly easy ways to do it for chicken bones (basically boil bones with a little vinegar to leach out some of the calcium and grind it, or slow-roast bones till brittle and crush it.). But beef, lamb, and pork bones are a bit harder to handle. Has anyone tried making bone meal from those types of bones?

Some people bury it in their hot compost pile but it's not a good option in my yard because the neighborhood rodents are exceptionally intelligent.

She wrapped left-over bones in newspaper, them burned them in the fireplace when she built a fire. She had to pound them with an old hammer after burning, but it seemed to work.

yeah, i would say make stock, and use a generous dose of vinegar. it reacts out and boils away, but the more you use the more calcium you extract. you will get stock like jello if you try. and very soft bones.
