Your pet's microchip may now be useless after chip company goes out of business

https://local12.com/news/local/cincinnati-animal-care-shelter-warns-microchips-may-fail-after-major-company-goes-out-of-business-microchip-dog-dogs-pet-pets-animals-registered-online-records-database-lost-missing-save-this-life-shelters-hamilton-county

It's quick and easy to figure out whether your pet is registered with a company that's still in business. It should be on your pet's paperwork from when you got them. Shelters, vets, and even some police departments have scanners, so you can make sure your pets can find their way home if they're lost.

There are about 40 companies that register chips. The American Animal Hospital Association has a lookup tool online at www.AAHA.org that allows people to plug-in the registration number and it will show with which company a pet is registered. You can call that company or go to its website and make sure your information is up-to-date

If your pet's microchip is registered with "Save This Life," the company that went out of business, don't get your pet re-chipped. Any of the major companies will re-register you. There’s a list of them below. Most of them don't charge, and most allow you to do it online. The important thing for you to do is check your pet’s chip and make sure they're registered so you can be found if your pet is found.

I'm going to look up the microchip company for my puppy right now. And also want to suggest Apple Air Tag is a valuable backup locator.

Take a pix of the info.

Really made me feel angry reading that they didn't even bother to reach out to customers.

Must be repukes.

I fear I'll awaken to a clear and cloudless day. While that may seem ideal it's not in the 21st century
I'm calling the vet Monday and have them tell me what company they used for Sparky. I should take someone to small claims court...as if.

and not make provisions to do it in a manor that safeguarded those pets (which was the whole purpose for their existence, purportedly) was only ever in it for the grift. Just looking to make a quick buck, didn't pan out, move on to the next. Really just needed to export a database that is not that complex, names address phone and id. I'm sure one of the other services would have willing incorporated it. And for a few bucks, leave directions up on their website where to go.

Every pet owner had a phone call, email, & snail mail alert in addition to contacting every vet & shelter & rescue in the country!

But I don't view our planetary neighbors with that greedy repuke gleam in my eye. I see them as great gifts from Nature, to be cherished & loved, & cared for.
