"My cat emerged from the darkness of the bedroom and hopped back up onto the couch. She waited for me to move the telephone aside, then crawled onto my lap and kneaded it until she tucked her paws in and dropped down on her belly."
From "Nick's Trip"
a weird but fun
detective novel.

(25,108 posts)Not all cats are lap cats, but over time most are. Our kitty, Foggy, is firmly a lap kitty now.

(40,836 posts)Foggy is a great name for a kitty.

(25,108 posts)He was grey and whitish grey so looked "foggy".

(2,263 posts)as one of my late kitties, Foghorn. We called her Foggy the moggy. She is at the rainbow bridge doing her thing since 2004. She was quite the little character and is greatly missed.

(25,108 posts)Our Foggy is such a sweet boy, he even puts up with our jealous Aussie and even likes him.

(21,783 posts)That was the late Silver's middle name -- Foghorn.
Reason being that he sounded like a foghorn when he meowed!
How I miss my dear Silver. He was such a kind old fellow.
Silver died in his sleep on Jan. 2nd, 2025.
RIP my dear Silver F.

(2,263 posts)They leave huge pawprints on your heart. I've lost 7 kittykids, so i know what you are going through.
My Foggy got her name as the official Marina cat when we were stationed in Guam in the early 90's.

(21,783 posts)Silver had a twin brother named Andreas. Andreas died in 2024.
This left me with Silver and my black cat Missy.
Now it is just Missy and I living in the house together and no one else.
Missy is very lonely and when I go out, she is really sad and waits by the door for me to come back.
I'm thinking about adopting another cat but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not as Missy was quite jealous of Silver and they got into a few fights that ended up drawing blood.
Its so difficult when we lose a pet. The scars on the heart never seem to heal, at least in my case anyway.

(25,639 posts)When I'm sitting up in bed watching something on my laptop, my girl has to sit on my chest. There she purrs and gazes longingly into my eyes. It's pretty endearing!

On edit: no e version, but this is a prolific author, so I checked out several others.

(27,913 posts)So I went to the local shelter and brought home Tatiana, a Siamese-tabby mix, because I fell in love with her beautiful blue eyes. However, she absolutely did not want to be touched, and that lasted quite a while. More recently, Tony, an orange tabby, came to live with us, and he's a complete snuggle-bug. Gradually, Tatiana became more affectionate, and now sits right next to me, usually on the back of the couch. She's clearly working on getting on my lap eventually.

(26,803 posts)We have a brother-sister pair of Siamese mix rescue cats. The brother is a blue point, with pale blue eyes, and the sister is a seal point with almost turquoise eyes. I could stare at them all day.

(26,803 posts)...have the same rounded/full shape as your everyday house cat, not the angular/pointy sort of alien look. This link I've included has a picture that looks very much like our little female, who is named Charlotte.

(26,803 posts)His colors are more muted. I say that if these 2 had been painted by impressionist artists, Charlotte would be a Van Gogh and Fitz would be a Monet.

Their mother was a tortoise shell, so they don't look anything like her.

(113,510 posts)until multiple moves to multiple fridges caused it to fall apart. It was of a lion, flat on his back, zookeeper scratching his neck, forepaws in the air, one stretched out and one kinked, obviously happily kneading the air.

(556 posts)I've forgotten if it was about tigers or lions, but I was totally amazed how much my little house cat was like the big cats. The only difference was size.
I like detective novels, so I'll have to check that one out.
