He fulfilled his duties to uphold the constitution and hold the republic together through economic ruin and social upheaval. He could have taken the fascist route and cracked down hard on dissent, but at what cost? I could veer off into speculative alternative history, but not now. Do imagine, however, a United States in that time led by a fascist dictator wannabe and its effect on subsequent history.

Here’s to the gentleman who is perhaps most responsible for the shape of the modern world than anyone else.

among national historians, though some actually rank him 2nd.

Speaking of history, and amid reports of Trump trying for a third term, I couldn't help but recall it being Republicans who brought in the Two Term Presidential limit after Roosevelt won his fourth term.
