Marking Black History Month, the president made some strange observations about Douglass and Martin Luther King, but mostly talked about himself.

Does Donald Trump actually know who Frederick Douglass was? The president mentioned the great abolitionist, former slave, and suffrage campaigner during a Black History Month event Wednesday morning, but theres little to indicate that Trump knows anything about his subject, based on the rambling, vacuous commentary he offered:

The direct descendants of Frederick Douglass responded late Wednesday to President Trumps vague comments about the celebrated 19th century African-American abolitionist, writer and orator.
Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody whos done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice, Trump said during what was billed as an African-American History Month listening session at the White House.
The presidents comments were noted and appreciated by us, the Douglass family said in a statement published by the Huffington Post. In fact, we believe, if he had more time to elaborate, the President would have mentioned the following.
The family then listed 15 things Trump could have specified.
