(13,483 posts)'The administrative message outlines a phased treatment plan for Marines affected by pseudofolliculitis barbae, with the ultimate goal of returning Service members to grooming standards and ensuring maximum warfighting readiness.
What the hell does whatever is on your face have to do with war fighting readiness?

(37,924 posts)Approximately 42% of the US Marine Corps is comprised of minority groups, also known as People of Color (POC). This includes Black or African American, Asian, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and multiracial individuals. The USMC has seen a growth in diversity, with enlisted ranks showing a 33% to over 45% increase in diversity from 2010 to 2020, and officer diversity growing from 16% to 34%, according to the Marine Corps Association.
Today's Marine Corps is 58 percent white and 42 percent minority; from 2010 to 2020 enlisted diversity grew from 33 percent to over 45 percent and our officer diversity grew from 16 percent to 34 percent. Female diver- sity continues to climb each year also and is currently over 9 percent.

(24,788 posts)For these standards. It's the same reason that the Army doesn't allow facial hair and requires the same type of waiver - the hair and in some cases the shaving bumps, etc can prevent proper sealing of gas masks.
Is it a reason that justifies bring discharged? No, but there actually is a valid reason for the existing requirements.
