a broken heart

a broken heart

a few inches beneath the skin beats a broken heart
not knowing if broke or bent keeping time with life
membranes are growing thin as it will stop and start
hiding each individual rent under threat of the knife
long ago the heart was whole while holding all love
pumping with a light weight of clean blood in pulses
tied in a rhythm to the soul resisting the great shove
where lies doubt and hate bring the life that repulses
freshness fades time incomplete scattering the debris
in search for what remains yet so little is to be found
unsure which is needed to delete and which to let be
and no one is left to explain why lives are still bound
at last a time has come to repair this broken machine
all of loss and all of despair which cannot be unseen
