living in the garden of evil

i was born in the garden of eden free of all sin
basking and dreaming in god’s paradise replete
then time began to harden light started to dim
muttering voices scheming a reality incomplete
by the banks of a brown river the spirits argue
fallen angels weep in remorse and curse at fate
the demons who drown drinking the bitter brew
reaching nearer to a source created by the hate
i am living in the garden of evil beset by doubts
scratched by briar thorns then wrapped in roses
beseeching of love’s pardon surviving droughts
praying to that which adorns that which opposes
good and evil bind at night darkness has no color
harder to accept no sight as emotion grows duller
