Creepiest Story I Ever Read

Thanks Nathan Robinson 🙄. (I am kidding Robinson is my second favorite writer after Yasha Levine, but this gave me the creeps).

The Ones Who Leave the Omelas

Our society is full of this stuff (factory farming, mass incarceration or as Alec Karakatsanis calls it “caging people”). Still, creepy as all hell..

I have never heard of an idea associated with “utilitarianism” from Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon to that moronic Three Trolley Problem that doesn’t have underlying vaguely religion adjacent themes where some sort of hideous, morbid, moronic and barbaric punishment is seen as somehow essential to human survival or progress.

It has no parallel with evolutionary biology. People like to point to the brutality of nature. Which is just stupid. In nature things are rarely asymmetric and it’s not this bs of claiming to be an intelligent and superior species that reaps the utility of cooperation on the one hand and then shifting to “oh well we are just animals” when that’s convenient.

We really are a douchebag of a species with very narrow and limited imaginations .

For some reason, it reminds me of a little saying my mother used to utter, from time to time.

"Everyone's crazy, save for me and thee....and I sometimes wonder about thee."
