I read that you don't need to boil the water and sugar.
Just let the sugar dissolve in room temp water.
Maybe the hummies are boycotting my new nectar.

(39,776 posts)I read somewhere that they really dont have much sense of taste or smell. Its the color that attracts. Mine didnt show up for quite a few days in a row. This morning male and female both were back.

(8,701 posts)Im in Portland, Oregon and we have Annas hummingbirds year round. During a late winter storm I brought the feeder inside to change the nectar and was unable to hang outside for several days because the snow was too deep. Alas, they havent yet returned. 😢

(39,776 posts)Ive been getting the ruby-throats at my feeders every year for 10 years or so. I think some of them come back from last year. They nest in the sweet gum tree here. Good luck

(16,183 posts)enjoying the hummingbird swing we have hanging up several times today! Normally they dont discover it until late June. Also noticed today the wrens nesting in our wren house feeding babies!
