The fading arm of Patrick Mahomes

What a drop off! I suppose some of it could be attributed to a weaker receiving corps and an aging Travis Kelce (who normally catches shorter passes, not longer ones). But it doesn't bode well, nonetheless.

Patrick Mahomes on throws of 10+ air yards:

2017-2022
● 105.7 rating (7th of 60)

● 12.0 yards per attempt (4th)

2023-2025
○ 75.3 rating (35th of 47)
○ 0.30 EPA per dropback (28th)
○ 0.6 TD/INT ratio (45th)
○ 10.5 yards per attempt (22nd)

gets back from his suspension.

Or maybe his arm is tired from joining his wife in all the MAGA Sieg Heil-ing.

So, he really shouldn't be losing that much ability yet if Stafford's example is at all common.

Maybe he'll turn out to be a supernova and burn out relatively quickly.

Is his receivers. Half the time he had to run the ball himself. Kelce missed an easy touchdown 🙄.

Yeah, they've had some good receivers, but not real threats to take the ball deep. Rice has been injured or stupid since he was drafted, and Worthy hasn't panned out yet, but both could turn out to be threats once they're back and if they continue to develop. And the problems on the offensive line haven't been solved to date. Too many stupid penalties, missed blocks, etc. Lot of work to do there, and until it improves, Mahomes will be running for his life. I don't really think he is the problem; he can only work with what his team gives him, and they're giving him sub-par stuff. Kelce is still dangerous, so he's double- and triple-teamed every play, so that cuts down his usefulness. The other tight ends just aren't Kelce.

but I don't think Mahomes would trade places with Joe Burrow, who has a god-awful offensive line in front of him (as long as they remain in front of him).

But Mahomes would surely welcome a WR like Ja'marr Chase.

Rice and Worthy have the breakaway speed to be dangerous receivers, but they have to get their acts together to be top-notch players in the NFL. I hope Rice can get over his off-the-field stupidity and get his head back in the game.

The chiefs and Bengals both have bad offensive lines.

The chiefs at least had 5 guys capable of starting in the NFL but any injuries and they were done (look at pressure rate the two super bowl losses...in which the real MVP of each was the opposition team's defensive line, regardless of what idiot writers voted for).

For the third time in six years Joey B is a casualty of bad GM not getting offensive line help. I would be surprised if Maholmes doesn't also get a season ending (or at least significant) injury because of having to dodge defenders on more than one third of drop backs.

Rarely does a guy go noodle arm without significant injuries first.

Maholmes is a victim of no one capable of blocking coupled with no one who can get open quickly.
