What are your favorite OPEN WORLD games?

Here are mine, in no particular order:

Zelda- Breath of The Wild
Zelda - Tears of The Kingdom
Horizon: Forbidden West
Cyberpunk 2077
Fallout 4
Skyrim
Dragon’s Dogma 1&2
Ghost of Tsushima

I did not like Red Dead Redemption 2 - who thought having to stop every 5 minutes to feed and brush your horse would make for a fun game? (It’s a beautifully constructed world though)

As far as classic I like GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption, particularly the story lines. I did like Red Dead Redemption 2 but it was almost too realistic so you're right about that game.

I have a new favorite with AC Black Flag Resynced which I recently posted about. I also liked the setting Baghdad, Iraq in AC Mirage.

Also AC Shadows. I played the Viking game AC Valhalla a lot especially when I first had a PS5 but I didn't like the setting England except for Stonehenge.

Outside of Ubisoft games I like Ghost of Yotei and Fallout 4.

When GTA 6 comes out that will probably be my next favorite.

Though the ones that take place 1500s-1700s do have guns or in Shadows teppos. Most of them are RPG but not as much of one as the Fallout games.

They do have a lot of swords and a lot of old style weapons especially in the Antiquities era games. What I think are open world are games with a large world with ability to free roam the map in between missions which you are able to do in their games.

But I play lots of different types of games. My current favorites are:

Icarus
Palworld
The Last Caretaker
Starfield
No Man’s Sky

I’ve played a lot of Skyrim but not recently. I still love Daggerfall. I have over 1000 hours in the original Ark: Survival Evolved, in which I never participated in PvP.

Never played The Witcher or Red Dead Redemption because I don’t like playing a male protagonist.

Used to play cozy games like The Sims but no more, not for years. I’ll never play another EA Games title in any case, since Saudi Arabia bought the company and took it private.

Morrowind
Red Dead Redemption 2
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Fallout 4

and if Assassins Creed Origins can be considered 'open world', I'd put that on the list.

I generally don't like games where I'm forced to play a male character, so it surprises me how many of those games fit that description.

Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time (right up there with Dragon Age: Origins), and really hits the perfect balance for me, of wander-aimlessly-until-something-interesting-happens and IT'S ROLEPLAY TIME! I've never managed to get through any of the other single player TES games... got really close with Oblivion and then one day I just couldn't look at it anymore.
