5. a host can come in handy in the off chance one is needed.

Early on in DU3 I hosted a pretty active group, turned out to be a rather demanding task.
The quieter groups are not as demanding.
One key host job is pinning a welcome thread, and perhaps any other rare threads.

You get 10 folks who say they support the idea of you being host, then let Skinner know..simple process.
