I did my own translation fwiw as other lyrics translations of this famous song depicting Empress Meongsang's reflections upon her tragic death by assassination appeared to be google AI or something like it. I could be wrong this is my interpretation. I haven't seen the drama series. It's been some time, it has many episodes and doesn't look like any of the streaming services I use have picked it up. I would have preferred Sumi Jo's original performance, but there aren't any youtube videos that do it justice. Su-hyun's performance is as good as any.

The mournful tune is a metaphor for Korea's tragic modern history.
