WNBA legend to speak at MLK Breakfast

Kym Hampton, a founding member of the WNBA, singer, model and motivational speaker, will be the keynote speaker at the Morristown Task Force o Diversity’s Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast, January 20.

“I am really excited that Morristown MLK 2025 Breakfast will have someone special as our keynote speaker who is truly a game changer in life,” said Dr. Alpha Alexander, chairperson of the Task Force. “She has forged through life as Dr. Martin Luther King did, making game changing impact internationally and nationally. On top of everything else she also can really sing! Morristown community will experience a really special person on MLK day on January 20th, 2025.”

Hampton was there at the literal beginning of the WNBA. Playing for the New York Liberty, Hampton tipped the inaugural WNBA game off against Lisa Leslie on June 21, 1997.

Hampton scored the first basket in New York Liberty history, started every game during the franchise’s first three seasons, and was the first player in franchise history to earn 500 rebounds.
