Let's talk about Trump saying he wants housing costs to go up.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump saying he wants housing costs to go up.

On January 11th, we had a question about Trump saying he wants to lower housing prices by banning institutional investors. While I went over what he said, I made it clear I was skeptical of his desire to enact the plan. I flat out said I'm skeptical of his desire to do this. Look, helping the working class just isn't Trump's thing. He also said he'd tell us more about how he would help with housing affordability in two weeks.

When you hear two weeks, just assume it's something he's making up for the most gullible parts of his base. About 3 weeks later, Trump said, “existing housing, people that own their homes, we're going to keep them wealthy. We're going to keep those prices up. We're not going to destroy the value of their homes so that somebody who didn't work very hard can buy a home. We're going to get we're going to make it easier to buy. We're going to get interest rates down. But I want to protect the people that for the first time in their lives feel good about themselves. They feel like, you know, that they're wealthy people. And I want them to understand it. You know, there's so much talk about, oh, we're going to drive housing prices down. I don't want to drive housing prices down. I want to drive housing prices up for people that own their homes and they can be assured that's what's going to happen.”

So there you have it. There is no plan to make housing more affordable. There is no plan to help lower the cost of homes. In fact, the plan is to make housing more expensive. Trump's plan is to make it easier for people to go into debt. Combine this with them floating 50-year mortgages, and the plan seems to be to keep Americans in debt to his campaign donors as long as humanly possible.

If you don't own your home, Trump thinks you're, "Somebody who didn't work very hard." Again, helping the working class isn't his thing.

Senator Tammy Duckworth called out Trump's position bluntly. "Are you trying to buy your first home? Trump wants your prices to go up, but sure, Donald, keep saying affordability is a hoax."

Housing affordability is not going to be solved by some magic bullet of lower interest rates. Wages and benefits need to go up. Interest rates need to go down once Trump stops adding inflationary pressure and supply needs to increase. Any politician telling you their single policy is going to fix things is lying to you and wants to keep you in debt to their donors. It's really that simple.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
