In reply to the discussion: "But They Are Dying." Hospice physicians like me can't usually offer patients the care they need. - Slate [View all]maptap22
(263 posts)I thought I was the only one. I had no idea what to expect and no one sat me down and told me. I was in shock so was not thinking clearly. The one and only time someone came to the house for his care, the woman did not bring anything with her. I was not aware that I needed to provide all the supplies for his care. And when they were bringing him home by ambulance they had me running around looking for an oxygen tank (the ambulance already had one). They sent him home without his meds so my son had to go back and pick them up. When he was at the hospice facility, I was assured a private room - nope did not happen.
And this is the big one - they had no morphine. The man was riddled with cancer and in pain and they had no morphine? They ended up putting him on dilated (sp?).
He died in a week or I would have sought out a different hospice.
