If I had to guess the identity of anyone giving the Iranians advance notice, I would suspect either someone in the Defense Department or one of our intelligence services. Since we werent going to initiate a land invasion, we did not want to risk setting off some kind of Chernobyl contamination of a wide expanse of Iranian territory. The idea was to send a message, not render a third of their country uninhabitable. Now the Republicans can all strut around, proclaiming Mission Accomplished, which will fly only as long as it is understood that many of our people have wildly differing understandings of just what the real mission was.
