Senior Iranian official confirms Tehran agreeing to ceasefire
By Reuters and ToI Staff
24 June 2025, 2:12 am
A senior Iranian official confirms to the Reuters news agency that Iran is agreeing to a Qatar-mediated, US-proposed ceasefire with Israel.
Qatars Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani secured Tehrans agreement to the US proposal for a ceasefire during a call with Iranian officials, an official briefed on the negotiations tells Reuters.
The call took place after Irans strikes on a US air base in Qatar on Monday, the official says.
The phone call came after US President Donald Trump told Qatars emir that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire and asked for Dohas help persuading Tehran to also agree, the official says.
Israel and Tehran have not officially confirmed the ceasefire since Trump announced the deal.

Shortly before the ceasefire announcement, an Iranian official told CNN that Iran had not received any proposals.

It would be helpful to have the name of this "senior Iranian official". Reza Pahlavi maybe?
Haaretz reports no such thing. They still have the headline as "Trump Says" and Al Jazeera as "Trump Claims".
Reporting from Tehran, Al Jazeeras Tohid Asadi noted that there has not been an official confirmation of the deal more than an hour after Trumps announcement.
Just a few minutes ago, we heard the sounds of explosions related to an interception and the activation of the air defence system here across the capital, Asadi said.
So the reality on the ground is that we are witnessing the continuation of the Israeli strikes, and thats paving the way for further retaliatory reactions by the Iranian side.
Middle East analyst Omar Rahman told Al Jazeera that many details are missing from Trumps announcement, including whether negotiations would follow the purported ceasefire.
