14. NPR lives not on direct funding but on fees for their programming.

My station went pretty much all NPR/APR/NPR/etc. feeds and at the same time more than doubled their semiannual "ask" for contributions, cranked up their foundation support and because the counterbalance, in part, to RW talk radio. That was their idea.
