6. Back in ancient history when I started in broadcast TV each commercial length was mandated to be no longer than 2 min.

And the number of breaks per hour was regulated. Then the repubs changed all that. Deregulation, don't ya know. I think some of the breaks now must be 5 minutes. And, like you say, really frequent.
