Because if it is, Democrats rank lower in the polls than Donald Trump. Trump and the Republican propaganda machine have effectively and successfully torn down the Democratic Party name. We cannot expect the Party to become "popular" before the next election. That is not rational.
What is it really about?
It is about constitutional government and the rule of law vs authoritarianism and tyranny. That is the battleground on which we must fight. That is how we must define this battle. We have to be the Party that preserves our Constitution and fights for the prize much bigger than a political Party.
The divide and conquer strategy has been very effective for them. We do not have the luxury of fighting on their ground by their rules any longer. The stakes could not be any higher.
