My brother used to buy me Dobson‘s books and sent me a subscription to Focus on the Family. I trashed all of it. They hit their kids and I didn’t hit mine. They had eight biological and one adopted (at age 14) child and none of them as adults have children. One of them has called out what happened to them as child abuse.

I am terribly sorry that this happened to you.
