In reply to the discussion: That bandaged hand could be evidence of Alzheimer's [View all]Chelation therapy is an unproven and potentially dangerous alternative treatment for atherosclerosis that involves infusing EDTA, a substance that binds to and removes heavy metals from the body. While there is some theoretical rationale for its use in heart disease due to plaque calcium content, large studies like the TACT trial found that it was beneficial only in a specific subgroup of patients with diabetes after a heart attack. Due to safety risks, significant cost, and the lack of strong evidence for its effectiveness, chelation therapy is not a recommended treatment for atherosclerosis by mainstream medical institutions.
