Income & Party Lean

State-level trend: Poorer states (measured by median household income or GDP per capita) are often more Republican today. Many of the lowest-income states—Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky—consistently vote Republican in presidential elections.

Richer states: Wealthier states (California, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, etc.) tend to lean Democratic.
