He had previously sold securities to investors without telling them he was getting a commissions for that. He was charged by the state with securities fraud. The charges languished for years until he reached an agreement not admitting guilt, but was required to take ethics courses.

He must have slept thru those classes as he later had a free home remodel done by a benefactor who also gave his mistress a job with his company. Paxton’s own staff reported the corruption to the Feds. Paxton fired them and they sued and prevailed. The State of Texas paid the settlement.

After Trump’s election, the DOJ dropped the case.

Democrats get indicted, Republicans are not charged.
