WASHINGTON ‒ President Donald Trump said the United States will add an additional 100% tariff on all Chinese imports in retaliation to Beijing's new export controls that it has floated for rare-earth minerals from countries across the world.

Trump said the new tariff would go into effect on Nov. 1, adding that his administration will also impose new export controls on "any and all critical software," effective the same date.

"It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump threatened the massive tariffs earlier in the day ‒ sending the U.S. stock market tumbling ‒ following what he described as an "extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade" from the Chinese.

Trump said countries throughout the world have received letters from China detailing its desire to impose export controls on "each and every element of production having to do with Rare Earths, and virtually anything else they can think of, even if it’s not manufactured in China." He likened the actions to China trying to "monopolize" the rare earth industry.
