From a distance, if is not you personally having to live through the nightmare, it seems wrong - but from personal experience I can tell you that there are many people who are given a few weeks training and then a badge and a gun and the authority to do any fucking thing they feel like (ICE being the perfect example).
As a young man (white male) age 22, working the evening shift (3-11) at a university hospital medical records in 1972 to pay my way through college, I left work at 11PM and stopped at a nearby gas station to fill up. I had long hair and when I pulled in I noticed a cop sitting there looking at me. When I pulled away he followed me for a short while and then put on his lights.
I pulled over, gave him my DL etc. He asked me to get out of the car...put my hands on the vehicle...proceeded to beat me with his nightstick. By then his buddies had arrived - all laughing I guess because he had beaten up a "long-haired hippy" (lots of turmoil in the Vietnam era).
They drove me around in a paddy wagon for a couple of hours - told me I had two choices - get out, no charges filed or go to jail. I got out, had to call for someone to pick me up (about 1AM by then).
My point is that because of this I have never trusted cops ...still don't today(now age 75)...I think most are PIGS and maybe not the lowest elements of our society but pretty close.
So these ICE folks are simply a continuation of the BS that I am sure minorities have to deal with on a daily basis. I hear "Make America Great Again" and I wonder when was it "great"?
Maybe better than most but a long way from great since our founding - depending on you class and color, probably. Do I hate America....NO, but I understand its reality.
