(16,680 posts)i take it personally, and I have taken it personally since 2016. I cut off friends and family that supported Trump. First of all, they're just ignorant, and I don't need to be their teacher. Secondly, Trump supporters are fundamentally different from me. They lack the ability to care for others and to understand suffering and pain of others. Unless something happens directly to THEM, they don't think it exists.
But mostly, the policies that THEY voted for have hurt people that I care about. Up close and personal. I haven't been affected directly (I guess you would say), or as egregiously as some. But there are people in my inner circle who have been directly hit, and many who have been affected in some way or another. And I care about those people.
I care about the people who won't have food - whether I know them or I don't. I care about the damage that is being done to the planet. I care about the people being kidnapped by ICE and I can only imagine the fear that THEY feel as well as the fear and concern that their family members experience wondering where they are, are they all right, will they ever see them again.
I am VERY different than these MAGA jackasses and I will loudly and proudly proclaim and celebrate that difference.
